Data Collection & Storage

What Data Do We Collect?

We do NOT collect or store your writing content on our servers. All your business writing, analysis results, and document history are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB technology.

Browser-Only Storage (IndexedDB)

  • Your Text: All writing you input into ProofPoint stays in your browser
  • Analysis Results: Clarity scores, suggestions, and recommendations are stored locally
  • Document History: Saved documents and past analyses remain on your device
  • User Control: You can delete your history at any time using browser developer tools or our built-in clear history feature

Important: If you clear your browser data or use incognito/private browsing mode, your document history will be lost. We recommend saving important documents elsewhere.

Optional AI Features

AI-Powered Rewriting (Opt-In Only)

ProofPoint offers an optional AI rewriting feature that uses external AI services. This feature is:

  • Opt-In: You must explicitly click "AI Rewrite" to use this feature
  • Limited Scope: Only the text you select for rewriting is sent to the AI service
  • Third-Party Processing: Selected text is processed by Vercel AI Gateway (OpenAI GPT models)
  • No Long-Term Storage: AI providers process your text for generation purposes only and do not use it for training (per OpenAI API terms)
  • Clear Indication: The interface clearly shows when text is being sent to AI services

Core Features Work Offline

All core analysis features (clarity scores, weak language detection, conciseness checks, grammar, etc.) work entirely in your browser without requiring AI services or internet connectivity.

Analytics & Cookies

Website Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. This helps us improve the tool. Analytics data collected includes:

  • Pages visited and navigation patterns
  • Browser type and device information
  • Approximate geographic location (country/city level)
  • Traffic source (how you found our website)

Note: Analytics does NOT track or record your writing content, analysis results, or any personal data you enter into the editor.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies for:

  • Analytics tracking (Ahrefs)
  • User preferences (theme, settings)

Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties. The only external services used are:

  • Ahrefs Web Analytics: Website usage analytics (anonymous)
  • Vercel AI Gateway: Only when you opt-in to use AI rewriting features

Your Rights & Control

  • Delete Your Data: Clear your browser's IndexedDB storage to remove all locally stored documents and analysis history
  • Opt-Out of Analytics: Use browser extensions like uBlock Origin or configure your browser to block analytics scripts
  • Avoid AI Features: Simply don't use the optional "AI Rewrite" button - all other features work without external services

Security

Since all your writing stays in your browser, security depends on:

  • Keeping your device and browser secure
  • Using HTTPS (enforced on our website)
  • Being cautious when using shared or public computers

Children's Privacy

ProofPoint is intended for business professionals and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
